Places You've Been

For Now 03:32
a changing season, a shifting eye, you are the heart and soul of mankind and you said "there's no reason for your troubles to come, it's just a wave that you are riding on for now." a subtle answer, a rocky shore, I am the hope that you don't hope for anymore, and I want to find a place to lay my head back down, make a home into a hideout, for now. and it's clear to me all the thoughts you breath now and it's clear to me what was meant to be now another question I can't ignore, so I close the window and open that door where I find my way with this paper soul that I'll re-write before the devil comes for me for me. well I was in my head, so I forgot to be me. it was in my head where my thoughts were scared to be free.

they say the time is here to focus on the things that brought you hope, brought you fear, brought you to this point, you're standing in the clear, sky's reflection painted on your window and if we share a light, speak your mind and help me see the good outside, tell me how we came to this and I will try to see it was the only way for our trials to run, centuries of guns, I thought it was all done but it's just begun, and I've run my run, but there's miles and miles to go until the past comes back and it's on our minds, weighing down our shoulders 'til we can't be blind, and we see what's right but we can't make up our minds and I thought I held the world inside of my head, thought I held the world inside my head, but at the break of morning it was you there, lifted from the shadows of these dark years. and I'm not who I was, but if I find the strength I'll see it's just because there's sides of us we'd rather see but they are lost in the moments we continue to grow so if you find the time, would you write to me with a pen in paper like in the movies and help me believe there is still something in me you see? and I will write you back with a new breakthrough, speak as though I am not still in love with you, although you'll know that's true, and you know it's true that I thought I held the world inside of my head, thought I held the world inside of my head, but at the break of morning it was you there, lifted from the shadows of these dark years lifted from the shadows

Way on over by the mountainside, a bright-eyed woman makes her way back inside. She spends her days in the afternoon light, tending to azaleas and pepper grinds. I tell you if you've seen her then you've seen change; makes any man weak at the knees and ashamed, but I tell ya' she's the sweetest and realest thing I ever did see. Some nights I'd play to the stars, hoping she'd hear me sing: "May you find your holy water, may you find some peace tonight. I want only to hold ya', and maybe to warn ya', though you already know the things that matter the most take the longest while. I know you already know, the things that matter the most are gonna' take some time." And you can always tell when she's in her head, thinking up a dream or making them instead. Her laughing cracks me up but I'm cryin' 'cause I know she's in pain. She tells me 'bout the people who don't understand there's something inside all of us that's killin' us first hand, and every other day now she's breaking down. But all the words I seem to know is "I promise it'll be fine," and "could I say to you before I fall asleep tonight, 'just close your eyes now, wild woman of the wind, just close your eyes and I'll kiss you 'til the morning begins," and; "May you find your holy water, may you find some peace tonight. I want only to hold ya', and maybe to warn ya', though you already know the things that matter the most take the longest while. And while it may spell disaster, I won't care 'cause I've always loved ya', and I always knew you'd understand either way that I want only to hold ya', and give what's left of my heart ya'. Don't blow away my wild woman of the wind."

if the sun will rise, I'll meet you on the moor, in the midnight skies, on the ocean floor there will be comfort in not knowing where to start. when our history is shared and this photo is held to a flame I'll be watch the door, you know this is hardly a game, under the surface there were traces of a feeling you became so they call you the one who gazes at the moon and names the truth whatever happens in her world, and there you will stay watching the days fade away in plain sight I see your smile carved like a scar, cold and precarious, the ice continues to grow, well just like always it's the same until you're forced to look for more. so they call me the one who sat upon your roof and named the truth whatever happened in his youth and there I'll stay watching the days fade away and there I'll stay watching the days fly away

If there was a way I would get to you, take all your troubles far away - the threads inside your mind that lead up to your fears, I'd cut the blue wires and leave the red. When you showed up at the bar last night, didn't even recognize it was you. You'd cut your hair and you smiled with these secret eyes, hiding yourself from any kind of truth. 'Cause you know it's easy to go back to the places you've been. Just following the same old road, same old path you cut through as a little kid. Oh Abraham, come back to me now, come teach me how to swim. I overheard a man say he was tired of the same damn thing every other year. Another rodeo in Calgary, and another reason to try and drink your worries away. Well it's funny how the morning light always tells ya' "my good man you've been a fool." You tell yourself it's just a new thing for ya', but the fact remains its always been this way, 'Cause you know it's easy to go back to the places you know, mmm, Just following the same old light, same old signs, driving twisted in the dark. Oh Abraham, come back to me now, I know there is a spark. Oh Abraham, come back to me soon, don't worry about that for now. Oh Abraham, just call to me now, we'll go there dancing in the dark.

It's Not You 04:30
dark takes light inside the city, leaves a scar, those fragments float and dissolve and your face, carried by your warm grace, turns to stone and I wait for morning to take you home. it's not you who knows you well it's not you who knows you well it's not you but who could tell it's not you who knows you well secret codes of skin and hair go dim from the light left too long as the red tide comes in. and your tongue turns to dust as the water flows with lust, you dive into temptation now. it's not you who knows you well it's not you who knows you well it's not you but who could tell it's not you who knows you well so who will know you well? who will know you well? who will know you well? who could tell?

when troubled water fills your head, lightening bolts of grey and red, I'll be the sand upon the shore, carrying your flightless war. when all the colour seems to fade, misfortune turns your every way, there comes that moment you should know when it almost feels like letting go. 'ain't over yet, though it might be hard to see that, living in shame, when we've got nothing to hide, 'ain't over that, but sometimes I can see it, wings underneath, there is a new start wings underneath, there is a new start, coming apart and how can you say that your love is gone when a part of it lives on in you? how can you say you're the only lonely one, when love's not just unkind to you? 'ain't over yet, though it might be hard to see that, living in shame, when we've got nothing to hide, 'ain't over that, but sometimes I can see it, wings underneath, there is a new start wings underneath, there is a new start, coming apart coming apart

about

"Places You've Been is about feeling trapped inside of old ways of thinking that no longer serve you, and being on the cusp of mental awareness when you can finally take a step back, let go, and remind yourself that this is where you were, not where you are now." - Chris Ho
